About Felting Portraits

Learn More

Hi, I am Lisa and I have set up Felting Portraits myself.  I am a mum to 4 children, currently working full time in education and studying to achieve a degree in Learning and Teaching.

I am a naturally creative person and love to draw, paint, knit, crochet and make bespoke stationary for all occasions. Since the Covid-19 pandemic I have had lots of time to broaden my creativity and I instantly fell in love with the creation of Needle Felting.

'Needle Felting' is a craft that was made more popular in 2004 but came from the Industrial Revolution where felt was made by machines for industrial purposes.  The more recent version of Needle Felting is created by hand with the use of a barbed needle that 'knits' fleece (the wool before it has been spun) into a firm mass.  Then, with a self taught artistry I manipulate the wool to blend colours and create features of animals bringing them to life.  My ideal style is realism, I do like to create some caricatures but I love recreating animals and family pets, capturing their character as only the owner knows and selling them as keep sakes.

I like to source wool locally, I wash, dry and rove the wool myself but I do buy specific colours from other suppliers.

I have become more and more confident and I fall in love a little with each animal I create.  I invite you to browse my site to find just what you have been looking for.  I will require photos of your family pet and the size and stance you wish me to create.  Alternatively you can choose any animal you wish me to create, either send me specific pictures or let me create one for you.  Please feel free to get in touch with any questions.

I would like to add that these creations are not toys.  Although your Felted Portrait will give you years and years of comfort as a replicate of a family pet or other specific animal, they can be manipulated by hand and misshapen so I therefore do not recommend giving this to a child or animal.  There are also plastic eyes and certain parts of some of the animals are handmade by me from polymer clay, all of these additional parts are small and are a choking hazard.
